Paramount and Fleischer Studios produced the first animated series featuring Superman shortly after his 1938 debut. Superman began to fly regularly in these cartoons and later did so in the comics. The series was popular and only ended after the seventeenth short due to costs. Famous Studios produced the last eight shorts after the Fleischer Studios dissolved. The films are all in public domain and have been released on home video numerous times. Warner Bros. officially released the films for the first time remastered in 2009 on DVD.DVD
