FACTS:
Hong Kong Phooey was originally titled 'Kung Phooey'.
The show came at the peak of the Kung Fu craze.
Only Spot the cat knows the true identity of Hong Kong Phooey.
When Hong Kong Phooey got in a jam, he referred to his 'Hong Kong Book of Kung Fu' book.
Scatman Crothers, the voice of Hong Kong Phooey, also went on to do the voice of Jazz from
'The Transformers'.
Joe E. Ross, the voice of Sergeant Flint, used his trademark 'Oooh! Oooh!' phrase from his earlier work on 'The Phil Silvers Show' and 'Car 54, Where Are You?'.
Each episode (except the final one) featured two 10 minute shorts where HKP takes on a criminal. An overall smaller story, such as police budget cuts or Penrod fixing the Sarge's lamp, carried over both portions of the episode.
Spot the cat has stripes instead of spots!
With a clang on the gong, the Phooeymobile changes into any type of vehicle such as a helicopter, hot air balloon or unicycle.
Hong Kong Phooey later appeared in the Laff-A-Lympics as part of the Scoobie Doobies team.
